Purpose. To recognize a mid-career member of ISRHML who has demonstrated an exemplary record of research and mentorship in the field of human milk and lactation research.
Background. Anyone privileged enough to know Dr. Peter Hartmann personally knows what a tremendous lifelong mentor he was. With his passing, ISRHML has lost a founding member of our organization, and his death has inspired us to create this award in his honor. One of our board members has met with his children (Dr. Melinda Boss and Dr. Ben Hartmann) to gather their input and approval. Melinda provided the following quote: “Dad was honored to be a recipient of the Macy-Gyorgy award, which reflected his feelings for the integrity of the selection process and what the award represented.” Dr. Hartmann will always be known for his lifelong impact on the field of research in human milk and lactation and his legacy for mentorship is well known.
